awkward moments !

There's nothing perverse about what I am about to write. I just came back from an eventful day which ended with me spending some time at the library. The visit itself may be called "eventful" but something else about this day motivated the blogger in me, which also may seem coincidentally eventful... ! For those gamers out there, have you ever watched yourself in a mirror while you were playing something. I know that imagination has no bounds but reality bites ...quite a bit. Saw some brats playing guitar hero at that section of the library which serves its purpose to defeat the rest. The extreme concentration shimmering from the bulging eyes, the unwavering control over those fingers wrapped around the controls; fixated but flexible in subtle ways, sudden head jerks as if one were experiencing some epilectic fits and finally those bizarre, sometimes erotic facial expressions. These people may be experiencing an adrenaline rush, but to a distant observer like me, not overcome this time by an empathetic nod, there was only way to describe this. They looked completely and utterly retarded !!

But that is not the point. This observation reminded me of something that I had experienced myself ...firsthand. Those were the days of guitar hero II (perhaps a story from my grandchildren !, if I live long enough?) and they still are. I still remember the day I crossed my first real hurdle in hard mode (the song called "woman" in 360 version). Man, I was pumped ! I almost had the feeling that I had achieved something really significant. I felt like he-man when he goes to grey skull and gets that 6 ft sword i.e. the master of the universe. But then a friend of mine, matured by age who sat next to me all this time, saw me struggle through all the hammer-on's and pull-off's, who quietly went about his chores, who never even tried to mime those awesome tunes (half of which I couldn't hit !), who witnessed those nail-biting blinking red zones and those crappy mistimed solos, literally..i mean literally took the wind of this little success of mine. In his words, I shall put it ! Dude, it is not a fucking real guitar, you barely hit 75% of the notes. So long for the hrs spent nailing the lower modes.

My reaction to those brats at the lib may be interpreted as a dramatization of my response to "Taare Zameen Par". Who are we to call any one retarded? We all have our awkward moments !

Guitar Hero is not retarded!!! The real guitar is just too hard to play. :) It makes you feel accomplished without actually accomplishing something. Much like our education system isn't it. :)

gunda ..chuth..i never said gh is retarded... only the expressions that gamers put on while playing it....

can;t agree with you more on the education system...no creativity or research involved
